9. PORTRAIT OF AN ALPINE HERDSMAN IN THE LOWLANDS |
|
Games in the alphorn quartet. As a law student in Bern with the veterinary medicine students I took the exams to be licensed to tend hoofs. I chopped wood on a piece-rate basis, plowed from a Massey Ferguson, harrowed and sowed from a Hanomag, mowed by hand, tied sheaves and arranged stooks. I traveled as an itinerant butcher.
But even without a relationship to the earth we are all affected by
the loss of our myths.
Nature, animals and tools have shaped me.
I sense new magic in my roots and antennas. |
