9. PORTRAIT OF AN ALPINE HERDSMAN IN THE LOWLANDS

The destiny of alpine and lowlands herdsmen must be shared by all. Myself included.
I “graze” at the edge of the inhospitable. I listen to moon whispers and the gurgling chatters of springs and fountains.

Games in the alphorn quartet.

As a law student in Bern with the veterinary medicine students I took the exams to be licensed to tend hoofs.

I chopped wood on a piece-rate basis, plowed from a Massey Ferguson, harrowed and sowed from a Hanomag, mowed by hand, tied sheaves and arranged stooks. I traveled as an itinerant butcher.

But even without a relationship to the earth we are all affected by the loss of our myths.
Renewal is needed urgently.

Nature, animals and tools have shaped me.
I am inspired by their sight; I pursue myths and imbue them with new meaning.

I sense new magic in my roots and antennas.

UELI IN FRONT OF THE MOUNTAIN

IN FRONT OF A MOUNTAIN OF
MYSTERIOUS QUESTIONS
HE STOOD WONDERING

THE KNOTS
HE BEGAN TO UNRAVEL
TO REMOVE MOUNTAINS

QUESTIONS BEGAN TO GET CLEAR
BUT THERE WERE MORE AND MORE
THE MOUNTAIN ALSO, ALWAYS WAS MORE BEAUTIFUL
